Terms of Service

Last updated: August 26, 2026

This policy is a working draft pending review by an attorney. It reflects our current practices and will be updated.

Climbing is dangerous

Climbing and related activities carry an inherent risk of serious injury and death. Climbing equipment can fail, sometimes without any visible warning and sometimes despite careful inspection. Nothing on this website or in any service we provide reduces or eliminates that risk.

What our service is

We clean your equipment, inspect it, lubricate hardware where appropriate, and document what we observed, checked against the published guidelines of the equipment’s manufacturer and against UIAA standards 101 and 121. We rate each item Good, Monitor, or Retire based on what we observed at the time we examined it.

What our service is not

Our service record is a written report of observed condition on a specific date. It is not a certification, not an endorsement of the equipment’s fitness for use, and not a warranty or guarantee of any kind. We do not test equipment to failure, we do not perform destructive or laboratory testing, and we cannot detect every defect. Internal damage, chemical exposure, UV degradation, prior falls, and manufacturing flaws may not be visible during inspection.

You decide

You remain solely responsible for deciding whether to use, retire, or replace any piece of your equipment. Our rating is information for that decision, not a substitute for it. If we recommend retiring something, we strongly encourage you to follow that recommendation — but the decision, and the responsibility for it, is yours. When in doubt about any piece of equipment, retire it or contact the manufacturer.

Manufacturer guidance controls

Where our observations and a manufacturer’s instructions differ, follow the manufacturer.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Idaho law, Centennial Arête’s liability arising from our services is limited to the amount you paid for the service in question. We are not liable for injury, death, or property damage arising from your use of equipment we have serviced or inspected.

Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from our services, are governed by the laws of the State of Idaho, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any such dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Idaho.

Membership billing

The standing service membership is billed quarterly at 250, or annually at 890. You may cancel at any time. There is no free trial — you are billed for the term you choose. Once online payment exists, members will receive an email reminder before each renewal charge, with a simple way to cancel.

Service terms

Turnaround is typically 48–72 hours; larger kits and resoles take longer and are quoted at drop-off. Payment is due at pickup. Resoles are handled by an outside resole workshop; their fee is passed through at cost and their work is their own.

Changes

We may update these terms. The current version is always posted here.
